If you really look at the storyline as a whole so far, it’s really no surprise that Korra is so broken by the end of the finale. It’s been about 7-8 months since book 1 started and the following has happened:
- 170 AD: Amon terrorizes RC and Korra deals with him.
- 171 AD: 6 months later, Unavaatu destroys Raava and resets the entire cycle.
- TWO WEEKS AFTER HARMONIC CONVERGENCE KORRA HAS TO DEAL WITH THIS NEW THREAT ON TOP OF ESTABLISHING THE NEW AIR NATION.
With each villain, they bring a new taxing issue that sucks everything out of Korra: her emotions, her energy…it takes everything from her. And it’s amazing that she’s held out for so long because that’s three times this has happened.
Three times you have a world threat and it hasn’t even been a year since the start of Korra’s journey.
Not even Aang had to deal with this bullshit within 7-8 months.
3x13’s ending is another reminder to us that Korra’s ultimately just a person. She is just as susceptible to weakness and vulnerability as anyone else, and I think this is a necessary step for her growth not just as the Avatar, but as a person.
The fact that Korra has stuck through all of this absolutely makes her my favorite Avatar, and I will defend her to the death.
i’m so proud of korra though…. she held out for so long with the poison, and then even when the Red Lotus got her to go into the Avatar State, she still freed herself and almost completely demolished them. the literal strength of her spirit saved the world once already, and now she saved herself.
I am being 100% serious when I say that was the most emotional episode of both ATLA and LOK so far
